The Lunch Box Sharing Program to Demonstrate Social Awareness in the Panjang Jiwo Area of Surabaya City

Abstract

The dynamics of economic development in Surabaya often leave informal workers such as daily laborers, motorcycle taxi drivers, and scavengers with limited access to food due to income instability and high living costs. The Panjang Jiwo area was chosen due to its representative socio-economic heterogeneity for local philanthropic initiatives. The program aims to optimize community participation in food sharing, reduce the economic burden on informal workers, and establish a replicable, structured social care model. The method uses an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach by mapping local assets such as food stalls, youth communities, and transparent donations, followed by the regular and humane distribution of hygienic lunch boxes at priority points. Results show increased donation participation, fulfillment of daily nutritional needs, a 15-20% reduction in recipient expenditure, and strengthening of bridging social capital that fosters solidarity between different economic groups.
