Abstract

Background: Hypertension or “Silent Killer” is a global health challenge because its symptoms are often not recognized by sufferers. In the working area of Dau Community Health Center, long-term fluctuations in non-compliance and misperceptions about medication are still major obstacles. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of hypertension sufferers about the disease and self-medication management through the GEMA CERMAT program with the DAGUSIBU method. Method: This activity uses a Pre-Experimental design with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design approach. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique of 30 respondents with hypertension at Dau Community Health Center. The intervention was carried out for 4 weeks including group counseling using structured leaflets and individual counseling. The evaluation instrument used a closed questionnaire with 5 items on a 100-point scale which was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test on IBM SPSS 25.0. Results: The majority of respondents were female (93.33%) and aged >61 years (50%). The analysis results showed a significant increase in knowledge from an average pre-test score of 77.33 ± 13.63 to 99.33 ± 3.65 in the post-test with a p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Structured health education based on the GEMA CERMAT and DAGUSIBU programs effectively increased the knowledge of hypertension patients significantly
