Escalate: Economics and Business Journal welcomes rigorous, original, and intellectually significant scholarly contributions in economics, management, business, accounting, finance, and related disciplines.

4 MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIES PEER-REVIEWED JOURNAL SCHOLARLY CONTRIBUTIONS

Escalate: Economics and Business Journal accepts four categories of scholarly manuscripts: Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Case Study Articles, and Methodological Articles.

Each manuscript category is defined by its primary research objectives, methodological characteristics, scholarly contribution, and reporting requirements. All manuscripts must demonstrate academic originality, methodological rigor, critical engagement with relevant literature, and a meaningful contribution to the development of knowledge, theory, policy, or professional practice.

Authors are expected to select the category that most accurately reflects the research design and purpose of their work. The Editorial Team may recommend or require manuscript reclassification during the preliminary editorial assessment.

ⓘ Important Information for Authors

The manuscript category should be determined by the actual research design and scholarly purpose rather than solely by the research topic, study location, or number of participating organizations. Manuscript classification is subject to editorial assessment and may be revised where appropriate.

CATEGORY 01 / EMPIRICAL RESEARCH

Original Research Article

An Original Research Article presents findings derived from original empirical investigations conducted by the authors. The manuscript should address a clearly formulated research problem, establish a convincing theoretical or empirical research gap, employ appropriate and transparent methodologies, and generate findings that contribute to economics, management, business, accounting, finance, or related disciplines.

Original Research Articles may adopt quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches. Relevant designs include survey research, experimental and quasi-experimental studies, longitudinal research, panel data analysis, econometric modeling, financial analysis, organizational studies, interviews, ethnography, and other methodologically justified empirical investigations.

Recommended Article Structure

Title Abstract Keywords Introduction Literature Review Research Methods Results Discussion Conclusion Implications Declarations References

Research Design and Methodological Requirements

The Methods section must provide sufficient information concerning the research approach, study design, population, sampling procedures, data sources, research instruments, measurement techniques, data collection procedures, and analytical methods.

Quantitative studies should explain variable operationalization, model specifications, estimation procedures, and relevant statistical diagnostics. Qualitative studies should describe participant selection, data collection, coding, interpretation, and strategies for establishing analytical credibility.

Mixed-methods research must clarify the integration of quantitative and qualitative evidence. Methodological transparency should enable readers to assess the reliability, validity, and reproducibility of the investigation.

Scientific Contribution and Reporting Standards

Manuscripts should identify a clearly defined research gap, establish their theoretical foundations, present appropriate research objectives or hypotheses, and demonstrate the originality and scholarly relevance of their findings.

The Discussion section should critically interpret research findings in relation to existing literature, examine alternative explanations, acknowledge study limitations, and explain theoretical, managerial, economic, or policy implications.

CATEGORY 02 / RESEARCH SYNTHESIS

Review Article

A Review Article provides a critical, structured, and intellectually meaningful synthesis of existing scholarly knowledge in economics, management, business, accounting, finance, and related disciplines.

Review Articles must extend beyond descriptive summaries of existing publications. They are expected to identify theoretical developments, conflicting findings, emerging research trends, methodological limitations, significant knowledge gaps, and opportunities for future academic investigation.

Accepted Review Approaches

01. Systematic Literature Review (SLR)

A Systematic Literature Review addresses clearly formulated research questions through explicit, transparent, and reproducible procedures for identifying, screening, selecting, appraising, and synthesizing existing research evidence.

Authors should report the databases consulted, search strings, search periods, eligibility criteria, screening procedures, study selection, data extraction, and synthesis methods. Systematic reviews are expected to follow PRISMA 2020 reporting guidance where applicable.

02. Meta-Analysis

A Meta-Analysis statistically synthesizes quantitative findings from multiple studies to estimate pooled effects, examine relationships, investigate heterogeneity, and assess the consistency of empirical evidence.

Authors must explain effect-size calculations, model selection, study inclusion criteria, heterogeneity assessment, sensitivity analyses, and publication-bias evaluation where applicable.

03. Scoping and Integrative Reviews

Scoping Reviews systematically map the extent, characteristics, and distribution of available research evidence while identifying knowledge gaps and conceptual boundaries.

Integrative Reviews synthesize diverse forms of theoretical and empirical research to develop comprehensive interpretations, conceptual frameworks, or new scholarly perspectives.

Authors must justify their selected review approach and describe the review procedures with sufficient methodological transparency.

04. Narrative and Critical Literature Reviews

Narrative and Critical Reviews provide theoretically informed and interpretive assessments of scholarly literature. Although these approaches may be less procedurally standardized than systematic reviews, they must demonstrate analytical depth, coherent argumentation, and meaningful intellectual contributions.

Authors must specify literature sources, search terms, relevant time frames, inclusion boundaries, and the rationale for selecting reviewed scholarship. Manuscripts consisting solely of descriptive summaries without critical synthesis or identifiable contributions will not normally be considered.

Recommended Article Structure

Title Abstract Keywords Introduction Review Methods Results / Synthesis Discussion Research Gaps Conclusion Future Research Declarations References

Review Reporting Requirements

Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses should follow PRISMA 2020 where applicable. Other types of literature review should follow established methodological and reporting guidance appropriate to the selected review design.

CATEGORY 03 / CONTEXTUAL INVESTIGATION

Case Study Article

A Case Study Article presents an intensive and systematic investigation of a clearly bounded economic, managerial, organizational, business, accounting, or financial phenomenon within its real-world context.

Case studies may investigate organizational transformation, strategic management, entrepreneurship, corporate governance, financial decision-making, digital business innovation, leadership practices, public policy implementation, sustainability, and other relevant phenomena.

The selected case must be supported by a clear methodological rationale and sufficient contextual and empirical evidence to generate meaningful theoretical or practical insights.

Recommended Article Structure

Title Abstract Keywords Introduction Literature Review Case Context Research Methods Findings Discussion Conclusion Implications Declarations References

Case Selection and Methodological Requirements

Authors must clearly define the boundaries of the selected case, explain the rationale for case selection, and identify the unit of analysis and relevant contextual factors.

The methodology should explain the case study design, participants or informants, sources of evidence, data collection procedures, triangulation where appropriate, analytical techniques, and strategies for establishing research credibility. Both single-case and multiple-case designs are acceptable when methodologically justified.

Classification: Case Study vs. Original Research

Research conducted within a single company, institution, business, or geographical area is not automatically classified as a Case Study Article. Manuscript classification depends primarily on the research design and methodological approach.

Example A: Original Research Article
A quantitative survey examining employee performance within a single company remains an Original Research Article when it employs a survey-based empirical research design.

Example B: Case Study Article
An in-depth investigation of organizational transformation within a company may be classified as a Case Study Article when it explicitly employs a case study methodology supported by contextual and empirical evidence.

Important Editorial Consideration

Case Study Articles must maintain objectivity, analytical rigor, and scholarly independence. Promotional company profiles, unsupported organizational success stories, and purely descriptive business reports are not considered sufficient scholarly case studies.

CATEGORY 04 / METHODOLOGICAL INNOVATION

Methodological Article

A Methodological Article focuses on the development, refinement, validation, critical evaluation, or comparison of research methods, analytical techniques, measurement instruments, and methodological frameworks relevant to economics, management, business, accounting, and finance.

These articles are intended to advance methodological understanding, improve research reliability and validity, encourage innovative analytical approaches, and facilitate the transfer of research methods across disciplinary boundaries.

Relevant contributions may include econometric estimation procedures, statistical modeling techniques, qualitative analytical frameworks, measurement-scale validation, simulation methods, computational approaches, and innovative research design strategies.

Recommended Article Structure

Title Abstract Keywords Introduction Methodological Background Proposed Method Validation / Application Results Discussion Limitations Conclusion Declarations References

Methodological Originality and Validation

Methodological Articles must establish a clearly defined methodological problem and demonstrate how the proposed approach contributes beyond existing methods, analytical techniques, or research frameworks.

Where applicable, authors should provide empirical applications, simulation studies, robustness evaluations, comparative analyses, or other appropriate forms of methodological validation. Claims regarding methodological superiority, accuracy, efficiency, or generalizability must be supported by relevant evidence.

Transparency and Reproducibility

Authors should provide sufficiently detailed descriptions of procedures, assumptions, computational methods, measurement processes, and analytical specifications to facilitate critical evaluation and research reproducibility.

Where appropriate and ethically permissible, authors are encouraged to provide supplementary datasets, statistical code, algorithms, research instruments, methodological protocols, or other materials that support independent verification.

Scientific Contribution

A Methodological Article should present meaningful methodological advancement, demonstrate the application or evaluation of a research technique, or provide a critical comparative contribution. General descriptions of established research methods without substantive analysis or methodological advancement are insufficient.
