Review Process
Policy.
A structured, independent, confidential, and transparent peer-review framework designed to ensure the originality, methodological rigor, scientific contribution, and ethical integrity of scholarly manuscripts.
Escalate: Economics and Business Journal is committed to maintaining a rigorous, objective, fair, and ethically responsible peer-review process. Peer review is a fundamental component of scholarly publishing that supports the evaluation of originality, methodological validity, theoretical relevance, academic contribution, and the reliability of research findings.
The journal considers scholarly manuscripts in economics, management, business, accounting, finance, and related disciplines. Each submitted manuscript undergoes editorial screening before being considered for external peer review. Manuscripts meeting the journal's preliminary requirements may be assigned to independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the subject matter.
The peer-review process is conducted in accordance with the journal's editorial policies, principles of academic integrity, and internationally recognized ethical guidance, including the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers. Final responsibility for editorial decisions remains with the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately designated editor.
ⓘ Fundamental Peer-Review Principle
Peer review is intended to improve scholarly quality and inform editorial judgment. Reviewer recommendations are advisory, not automatically binding. Manuscript acceptance must be based on academic merit, appropriate review, ethical compliance, and editorial assessment. Submission, payment of any applicable publication charge, or receipt of a reviewer recommendation does not guarantee acceptance.
EXPLORE THIS POLICY
01 / PEER-REVIEW FRAMEWORK
Peer-Review Model and Principles
Ensuring independent scholarly assessment and appropriate confidentiality.
Confidential and Independent Review
Manuscripts that pass preliminary editorial screening may be evaluated by independent scholars selected for their subject expertise, methodological competence, and ability to provide objective, constructive assessments.
The journal seeks evaluations from appropriately qualified reviewers and may request two independent reports where required for an informed editorial decision. Additional reviewers may be appointed when recommendations conflict, specialized assessment is necessary, or important concerns remain unresolved.
Manuscript files, reviewer reports, and editorial communications are treated as confidential. Reviewer identities and author-identifying information are managed according to the review mode configured for the manuscript in the journal's editorial system. Where an anonymous review model is applied, the Editorial Team must take reasonable steps to protect the identities required to remain concealed.
Core Principles of Peer Review
02 / MANUSCRIPT EVALUATION
Peer-Review and Editorial Workflow
Seven stages from initial submission to publication.
SUBMISSION STAGE
Manuscript Submission
Authors submit original manuscripts through the journal's official online submission system and provide the required metadata, declarations, manuscript files, and supporting documents. Manuscripts must comply with the journal's Author Guidelines, manuscript classification, and publication ethics requirements.
INITIAL EVALUATION
Editorial Screening and Originality Assessment
The Editorial Team assesses the manuscript's suitability for the journal, compliance with formatting and submission requirements, academic relevance, clarity of presentation, and initial scholarly quality.
Originality and publication integrity may be evaluated through similarity screening, examination of references, and review of relevant ethical declarations. Similarity scores must be interpreted contextually and should not replace editorial judgment. Manuscripts outside the journal's scope or failing essential standards may be declined at this stage.
REVIEWER ASSIGNMENT
Selection and Invitation of Reviewers
The responsible editor identifies qualified reviewers based on expertise in the manuscript's research topic, methodology, and disciplinary context. Reviewer selection must also consider independence, potential competing interests, and availability.
Invited reviewers must confirm their ability to provide a timely, objective, and confidential assessment. Reviewers who lack sufficient expertise or have significant conflicts of interest should decline the invitation or consult the editor before proceeding.
SCIENTIFIC EVALUATION
Independent Peer Review
Reviewers evaluate the manuscript's originality, theoretical foundations, research questions, methodological appropriateness, data quality, analytical rigor, presentation of results, critical discussion, relevance of references, and contribution to the field.
Each reviewer provides a reasoned and constructive report identifying strengths, limitations, required improvements, and a recommendation to the editor. Reviewers must report significant ethical concerns or suspected research irregularities through the proper confidential editorial channels.
AUTHOR REVISION
Revision and Reassessment
Where revisions are requested, authors must carefully address the reviewers' and editor's comments and submit a revised manuscript accompanied by a clear, point-by-point response explaining the changes made.
The Editorial Team evaluates whether the revisions adequately address the identified concerns. Substantial revisions may require an additional round of peer review involving the original reviewers or other suitable independent experts.
EDITORIAL DECISION
Final Editorial Evaluation and Decision
The Editor-in-Chief or designated editor evaluates the reviewers' reports, author responses, revised manuscript, and the journal's academic and ethical standards.
The editor may accept the manuscript, request further revisions, initiate another review round, or reject the submission. Reviewer recommendations inform the decision, but the final determination rests with the responsible editor.
PUBLICATION PREPARATION
Copyediting, Production, and Publication
Accepted manuscripts proceed through appropriate copyediting, formatting, metadata verification, proofreading, and production processes. Publication is scheduled according to the journal's editorial planning and publication arrangements. Acceptance does not automatically guarantee release in a particular issue or on a fixed date.
A Quality-Driven Review Process
The editorial workflow prioritizes scholarly quality, methodological soundness, and research integrity over publication speed. Additional evaluations, revisions, or editorial inquiries may be required where important scientific or ethical concerns remain unresolved.
03 / ACADEMIC ASSESSMENT
Manuscript Evaluation Criteria
Key dimensions used to assess the scholarly quality of submitted manuscripts.
01. Relevance to the Journal's Focus and Scope
The manuscript must address scholarly questions relevant to economics, management, business, accounting, finance, or related disciplinary areas and contribute meaningfully to the journal's academic objectives.
02. Originality and Scientific Contribution
The research must demonstrate originality, identify an appropriate knowledge gap, and provide a meaningful theoretical, empirical, methodological, or practical contribution beyond existing scholarship.
03. Literature Review and Theoretical Foundation
Relevant prior literature must be critically examined and appropriately synthesized to establish the research context, theoretical framework, problem formulation, and scholarly significance.
04. Research Design and Methodological Rigor
Research methods must be appropriate to the research questions and sufficiently described. Evaluation may consider sampling, data collection, measurement validity, analytical procedures, research transparency, and reproducibility.
05. Results and Analytical Accuracy
Research findings must be presented accurately, logically, and transparently, with analytical conclusions supported by the evidence. Statistical, econometric, qualitative, or other relevant analytical methods must be appropriately applied and interpreted.
06. Discussion, Implications, and Limitations
The Discussion section should critically interpret results, relate them to existing research, identify the study's limitations, and explain appropriate theoretical, managerial, business, economic, or policy implications.
07. Academic Writing and Presentation
The manuscript must be logically structured and written in clear academic language. Tables, figures, references, and supplementary materials must support the research and comply with the journal's submission requirements.
08. Publication Ethics and Research Integrity
The manuscript must comply with applicable ethical requirements, including originality, accurate authorship, appropriate citation, conflict-of-interest disclosures, research ethics approval where required, and honest reporting of research procedures and findings.
04 / REVIEWER GUIDELINES
Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers
Ethical and professional obligations throughout manuscript evaluation.
Professional Review Standards
01. Expertise: Accept review invitations only when the manuscript falls within the reviewer's competence.
02. Independence: Disclose any relevant financial, academic, personal, or institutional conflicts of interest.
03. Confidentiality: Treat manuscripts, supplementary materials, and editorial correspondence as confidential.
04. Objectivity: Evaluate scholarly content fairly, without personal criticism, discrimination, or inappropriate bias.
05. Constructive Evaluation: Provide clear, specific, evidence-based feedback that can assist authors in improving the manuscript.
06. Timeliness: Complete the review within the agreed period or promptly notify the editor when additional time is necessary.
07. Research Integrity: Report suspected plagiarism, data irregularities, unethical research, or other serious concerns confidentially to the editor.
08. Responsible Use of Information: Do not use unpublished ideas, data, or findings obtained through peer review for personal or professional advantage.
Confidentiality and Unauthorized Disclosure
Reviewers must not share manuscripts with colleagues, assistants, external individuals, or third-party services without authorization from the responsible editor. They must not contact the authors directly concerning the manuscript unless expressly authorized through an appropriate editorial arrangement.
Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Peer Review
Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscript content, unpublished research data, or reviewer correspondence to external generative artificial intelligence services without explicit editorial authorization and an appropriate assessment of confidentiality, data protection, and intellectual property risks. Any permitted AI assistance must not replace the reviewer's independent scholarly judgment and ethical responsibility.
05 / DECISION FRAMEWORK
Editorial Decisions and Review Outcomes
Possible determinations following peer review and editorial assessment.
01. Accept Submission
The manuscript meets the journal's scholarly, methodological, and ethical requirements and is suitable to proceed to copyediting and production, subject to any remaining technical or administrative requirements.
02. Minor Revisions
The manuscript is potentially acceptable but requires limited clarifications, reporting improvements, language revisions, corrections, or other relatively minor changes. The editor may assess the revised manuscript without initiating another external review round.
03. Major Revisions or Further Review
The manuscript requires substantial changes to its theoretical argument, methods, analysis, interpretation, or presentation. A revised manuscript may be sent to the original reviewers or assigned to additional experts for further assessment.
04. Reject Submission
The manuscript does not meet essential scholarly or ethical standards, falls outside the journal's scope, lacks sufficient originality or methodological validity, or contains major deficiencies that cannot reasonably be resolved through revision.
Editorial Authority and Reviewer Recommendations
Reviewer assessments support but do not replace editorial judgment. When reviewer recommendations differ significantly, the editor may request further clarification, commission an additional independent review, or determine an appropriate course of action based on the scientific evidence and the journal's editorial standards. A positive recommendation does not automatically guarantee acceptance.
06 / REVIEW TIMELINE
Review Duration and Editorial Communication
Timely scholarly assessment without compromising review quality.
The journal encourages timely editorial handling and constructive peer-review feedback. Reviewers are generally requested to complete their evaluations within two weeks (14 days), consistent with the journal's Reviewer Guide, unless a different schedule is agreed upon with the responsible editor.
The complete period from manuscript submission to editorial decision may vary according to the availability of suitable reviewers, complexity of the study, number of review rounds, extent of revisions, author response times, and editorial workload.
The Editorial Team may extend review deadlines or appoint replacement reviewers when necessary. Authors will be informed of substantive editorial decisions and requests for revision through the journal's official communication system.
Important Timeline Clarification
The fourteen-day target concerns an individual review assignment and does not constitute a guarantee that the entire editorial process will be completed within fourteen days. Manuscript acceptance and publication dates depend on successful completion of all applicable editorial, ethical, and production requirements.
07 / ETHICS AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Ethical Standards and Conflict Management
Protecting the independence, fairness, and credibility of peer review.
Reviewer and Editor Conflicts of Interest
Editors and reviewers must disclose circumstances that could compromise or reasonably appear to compromise their impartiality, including financial interests, professional collaborations, institutional relationships, academic rivalry, or personal connections. Individuals with significant unmanaged conflicts should be excluded or recused from the relevant evaluation.
Research Misconduct and Ethical Concerns
Suspected plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, inappropriate authorship, or other significant publication ethics concerns must be reported to the Editorial Team. Such concerns should be assessed according to the journal's research misconduct and publication ethics procedures rather than being treated solely as routine reviewer comments.
Editorial Confidentiality
Unpublished manuscripts and review reports must be treated as confidential documents. Editorial information should be shared only with individuals authorized to participate in the editorial process. Reviewers may not disclose unpublished findings or use privileged information for personal advantage.
Fair and Non-Discriminatory Evaluation
Editorial assessment must focus on scholarly content and research quality without discrimination based on personal identity, institutional prestige, geographic origin, or other characteristics unrelated to scientific merit. Reviewers and editors must avoid personal attacks and provide professional, evidence-based reasoning.
08 / AUTHOR REVISION RESPONSIBILITIES
Responding to Peer-Review Comments
Guidance for transparent and constructive manuscript revision.
Authors requested to revise their manuscripts should carefully consider the reviewers' and editor's feedback and prepare a detailed response addressing each substantive comment.
01. Submit a revised manuscript that clearly incorporates the necessary changes.
02. Prepare a point-by-point response to reviewer and editorial comments.
03. Explain where substantive changes have been made in the manuscript.
04. Provide a reasoned, evidence-based explanation when a reviewer suggestion is not adopted.
05. Ensure that revised analyses, citations, tables, and other materials remain accurate and consistent.
06. Submit the revised materials within the deadline communicated by the Editorial Team, or request an extension when necessary.
Example of a Reviewer Response
Reviewer Comment: The manuscript does not sufficiently explain the sampling procedure or justify the selected sample size.
Author Response: Thank you for this constructive comment. We have revised the Research Methods section to clarify the sampling strategy, eligibility criteria, and rationale for the sample size. These revisions are presented in Section 3 of the revised manuscript.
09 / PROCEDURAL FAIRNESS
Appeals and Editorial Complaints
Procedures for raising concerns about editorial decisions and review integrity.
Authors who believe that an editorial decision was affected by a substantive factual error, relevant procedural irregularity, unmanaged conflict of interest, or a serious misunderstanding of the manuscript may submit a reasoned appeal to the Editorial Office.
Appeals should identify the manuscript, the decision in question, the specific grounds for reconsideration, and any relevant supporting evidence. Disagreement with an unfavorable reviewer recommendation, without further substantive justification, does not automatically establish grounds for an appeal.
The Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately independent editor may review the appeal, consult additional experts, or reassess the manuscript where warranted. A reviewer or editor directly implicated in a relevant conflict should not independently determine the outcome of the complaint.
The journal seeks to handle appeals fairly and transparently. Reconsideration does not guarantee reversal of a previous editorial decision.
10 / AUTHOR INFORMATION
Frequently Asked Questions
Essential information about the peer-review and editorial decision process.
Does every manuscript undergo peer review?
Every manuscript undergoes preliminary editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the initial requirements may proceed to external peer review, while unsuitable submissions may be declined before reviewer assignment.
